Yeah I agree. This is another thing that the FIA has done that's going to have a negative impact on the sport and turn off viewers. I wish I didn't love F1 so much; I would stop watching it in a heartbeat just because of all the FIA BS. But I've been watching it since I was a baby (dad always had me with him when he watched it) and haven't missed a race for 20 years.... so I don't want to start not watching it now because of the FIA, when there are races as enjoyable as this was up to the finish.

Couple of nicer pics of my bike since making it naked, taken at Mount Baker.

Haha that's the main thing right? Glad to hear you're doing okay. Think you need to update your profile pic to one with the latest bike though

Sweet, that replacing your Kawi? How are you feeling now physically?

Well my rear tire is done and I'm putting a new one on tomorrow so I figured I'd have a bit of stupid fun with the old one today!

Quote from sinbad :A cynic would say you probably dropped your bike and smashed the fairings up a bit

Not my cup of tea that kind of streetfighter modding, tiny twin spots don't do it for me, but yours pulls it off nicely enough. Have to say, though, it was better before

Well, I am just worried about how it looks to me, not what other people think of it, so it's all good! I've always loved the naked look and I'm happy with how it's looking. And my fairings are in perfect condition. I will probably sell them and end up having made money on the conversion.

Here's another pic of my bike. Got the headlights working, got some turn signals on there, and also an Acerbis rear view mirror. The mirror is pretty shit but at least I'm legal. I'm really liking the bike how it is now. I can hear the engine better, it has a nice sound without the fairings. And I just like how it feels without fairings and a screen.

Quote from hrtburnout :They say it's meant to be as light as possible, but it also 'accomodates a multimedia system.' And why the silly headlights, if they want a really light car?

Well don't ask me, I didn't design it :P I was just referring to the acceleration claims being impressive. But yes they're obviously trying to separate themselves from the 7. Personally if I were to do something like this, I'd have it totally stripped out and just make the performance as extreme as possible. But still, while there is a lot of negativity surrounding this car, I always think it's good when companies make a new car that's potentially fun and exciting. Sure, it may not be to our particular tastes, but we should be celebrating the fact that there are people out there with a good enough sense of humour to make a 700kg car with 400hp that will out-accelerate a McLaren F1 to 100mph... Yeah it's ugly but I'd rather they made this ugly but potentially fun car than not make anything at all.

A bit more info about this car... Performance claims sound impressive but then of course they're only claims...

Quote from evo website :Caterham meets McLaren F1? That’s the sort of route your mind takes on encountering the Aspid. Revealed at the London motor show, the car is a showcase for Spanish R&D company IFR Automotive.

IFR’s aim is to make cars and their components as light as possible, which is why the 700kg Aspid, with its 400bhp supercharged 2-litre four-pot, can reach 62mph in a claimed 2.8sec and 100 in 5.9.

Its chassis is made from an ‘aluminium extrusion composite’ called Alexcom with panels between spaceframe tubes. The hollow, blade-like wishbones are also also aluminium extrusions.

Inside, where there is much visible carbonfibre, the instruments are concentrated in a single steering-wheel-mounted screen called Unidrive. It’s the visible part of a wiring and electronics system claimed to be much simpler and lighter than those of most modern cars, employing only a quarter as many microprocessors.

Despite this, Unidrive will enable the driver to adjust the car’s suspension settings and engine map, and can also accommodate telematics and multimedia systems.

Quote from wheel4hummer :Bad, bad, bad idea. Only replace a fuse with one of equal value. Otherwise you could start a fire or melt insulation off depending on the gauge of wiring.

Well from what I've read it's very common for people to replace the 10A with a 15A when they replace the headlights on bikes. The stock headlights are 55W each, and so are the ones I replaced them with, so they shouldn't be drawing any more current than the stock ones... it's just that apparently if your battery is not well charged, and the voltage gets a little low you can blow the 10A fuse. 15A should stop that. But really, same wattage as the stock headlights, it should be fine...

Turns out the black wire on the headlight was positive, and the blue was negative. Black wire is positive, of course! Makes so much sense :P Well the lights are working now at least... Now it's time to get some turn signals on there and some mirrors wouldn't be a bad idea either...

Taken it on track, I see! Nice Here's how mine is looking right now, minus fenders and with new headlights I mounted. Still have to tidy up the wires and work on the details, but it gives you an idea. Oh, and I need to get some front turn signals and a mirror or two. Getting rid of the stock bodywork including the heavy headlight assembly (the frame that supports the headlight unit and the mirrors was HEAVY) has taken over 10lb of weight off the very front of the bike. The front end now comes up more easily in 1st gear, and also in 2nd now if I snap the throttle open at 6000rpm.

Edit: I now have some turn signals on the front of the bike, and an identical pair on the back. They're quite a bit nicer than the stock ones which were huge and cumbersome units. Once I've tidied up the wiring and given the bike a wash and wax I will get some better pictures up...

Motorcycle headlight wiring issue

I am making my motorbike naked, and I have two individual headlights that I have now mounted on the bike, each is 55W. From the bike, for the headlights there are two pairs of wires, one pair for each headlight. Each of my new headlights have a pair of wires also. So we're all good there.

On the bike, one pair has a blue wire and a black. I soldered the blue to the blue on the headlight, and black to black on the headlight... The other pair from the bike is red and black. I soldered the red to the blue on the headlight, and the black to the black on the headlight. I understand that black is negative or ground, but I don't know why the use one red for positive on the bike and one blue for the other positive on the bike. Is it so you can tell which is wired for the high beam light? Also, I don't know why the positive wires would be blue on the headlights rather than red...

Anyway, I started the bike (you have to do this on my bike as the lights only turn on when you start the bike), and blew the 10A fuse for the headlight. So I replaced it with a 15A fuse and proceeded to blow that also. So I have not yet seen light from these headlights. Given the lights are each 55W, I would have thought that a 15A fuse should be ok given this setup (this is what I have read, based on the 110W total and 12V). I am not sure why I am blowing the 15A fuse. Did I miss something with how I wired it up?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. Again, pls don't laugh, I am an electrical noob!

Archery, althetics, badminton, baseball, basketball, canoeing, cricket, croquet, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey (field), rowing (mens 8), sailing, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, tug of war, and volleyball.

I've mostly tried these things at high school or for fun somewhere else. I competed in rowing at university but just in the novice team. Other than that it was all for fitness or for a laugh or because I had to do it in PE at school :P

I agree sinbad... I rode a new GSXR 750 recently, and with a little less weight and more than twice the power of my bike, it was quite the experience. Obviously the acceleration was impressive but something else I noticed was that a comfortable cruising pace on the gixxer was quite a bit faster than on my bike. I would look down at the speedo, and be very surprised how quickly I was going.

One part of me really loved that bike and I could see myself having one some day because of how focused it all felt, and how enjoyable it was to ride, but really I would end up doing stupid speeds without really pushing the bike... like you I'd rather have something a little less powerful and enjoy getting a little closer to its potential.
